From the IRS web site: "New regulations require all paid tax return preparers (including attorneys, CPAs, and enrolled agents) to apply for a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) — even if you already have one — before preparing any federal tax returns in 2011."
This law went in effect to protect the everyday citizen from unscrupulous tax preparers. As an enrolled agent, Sally has had a PTIN for many years. You can be sure that your taxes will be prepared by a qualified preparer.
